Breathe Deeply for Great Lung Power and a Long Life!

By

In 1990, as I was recovering from the trauma of a six-way heart bypass operation, restoration of my lung function was high on my priority list.

Several times each day I breathed deeply into a device called a spirometer, which measured the volume of air I was able to suck into my lungs. This was a difficult task at first, but before long my lungs were in better shape than before the surgery.

Every single day we take about 23,000 life-giving breaths, which bring almost 10,000 quarts of air into our lungs.

As we age and become less active the cells in our lungs start to die off faster than they are replaced.

This loss of lung function sends us down the path to reduced strength, stamina, energy and disease-fighting power. The smaller your lungs, the greater are your chances of getting to Heaven before your appointed time.

A sharp decline in lung power occurs with “normal” aging. By age 60 the average person has lost more than 50% of his or her breathing capacity!

But we don’t have to be average. Loss of lung function is preventable…even reversible.

Al Sears, MD gives us a proven formula for improving lung function. For over 17 years, Dr. Sears has helped thousands of patients boost their lung power and reverse disease in his clinic and research center in Florida. Dr. Sears tells that the benefits of restored lung power are increased stamina and endurance better immunity from sickness and improved energy.

When your lungs shrink your oxygen supply plummets and makes you sluggish and ready for nap time.

Researchers from the European Society of Cardiology reported that even a moderate decline of lung volume increases your risk of heart disease by a whopping 200 percent.

When your lung volume drops the lack of oxygen sets off a chain reaction that causes the mind to become foggy and energy to plummet.

Even the simple act of getting off the couch can leave you breathless… and your body becomes a helpless target for any number of deadly diseases.

But it doesn’t have to be so.

You can improve lung power in just minutes per day with the following exercise program:

  • Warm up for two minutes by walking, cycling or other cardiovascular exercise and then increase the intensity for a short time until you are breathing deeply. It may take as little as 20 or 30 seconds to become winded.
  • Do not go until you are exhausted…you should be able to carry on a conversation.
  • Rest until your breath and heart rate return to normal.

Repeat the above routine three or four times during each exercise session and you’ll soon find that your breathing improves.

Dr. Sears says, “I’ve seen frail 85-year-olds regain their strength and come back to life by using this system.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Gene Millen tells his story about a life changing event. “The cardiologist looked up from the treadmill report and grimly stated, ‘You’re a walking time bomb. You need to go to the hospital immediately.’ “Three days later the heart surgeon sawed open my chest and stitched in bypasses to six of my favorite arteries.”

Many patients with pulmonary complaints fail to improve despite physicians’ best efforts. Sometimes, we ascribe this failure to lack of adherence with therapy, or to the severity of the condition. What we often fail to appreciate, however, is that sometimes the lack of improvement can be explained by the patients’ psychological states. For example, some patients with genuine asthma can experienc…
